Does it really work?

Yes it really works! Hair transplantation has been carried out since the 1930’s and there are many men who had the old fashioned punchgrafts done in the 1950’s whose grafts are still growing now. There is ample proof that it works but it’s only been in the past 10 years that the technique has evolved to become so natural.

When is the right time to start?

Right now! There really hasn't been a better time to find a solution to your hair loss concerns. There has been a wonderful increase in choices, options and techniques within the the past 5 years. It may seem confusing but it is all good news as there is defintely an option to help you. If you have early hair loss, think about starting medical treatment - it is likely to stop further loss and even improve the quality of your hair. Follicular unit transplants can replace the hair already lost, even in profound loss, so don't think it's too late. If you have had previous surgery but not finished to your satisfaction, then modern techniques can help too. Simply put, now is a good time to up date your knowledge about hair loss.

Natural Hair line design?

The aim of natural hair line design is to mimic nature. That is, to place grafts softly and randomly around the lower limit of the hair line, then to increase the density further back. Single hairs are scattered at the front, then 2 & 3 hair grafts (FUs) are placed more densely further behind. Don't forget, the actual hair line shouldn't be too regular nor too symmetrical nor too dense. It is really a "hair transition zone."

Can anything be done to improve the old style surgery?

Usually, quite a lot can be done, either by placing more, smaller grafts in the spaces between the existing punch grafts or by actually dividing up the punch grafts and recycling the hair. Each case though, has to approach individually.

Does it always grow?

When performing up to 1000 grafts, we normally expect 99% of the grafts to grow again. It is a very reliable procedure. However, in some patients – less than 1%, the grafts are more sensitive to being moved about and not such a high percentage grow. This is true for every surgeon around the world and the reasons why are being investigated. There must be some individual patient differences involved.

Will I have bandages?

No, very few surgeons use bandaging now as it can have a detrimental effect on the natural growth of the grafts.

Is it permanent?

As discussed above, it is permanent and you should treat it as such i.e. the hairline we put in today when you are 25 years old will still be growing when you are 50 years or even 70 years. It is therefore important that we give you a natural hairline now, but also for your future.

Why Rogers Medical?

Because you are always assured of the personal attention of Dr Rogers and his team. Your consultation is only with Dr Rogers as we do not employ any sales staff. The surgery is carried out by Dr Rogers personally, including planting most of the grafts. Dr Rogers has an impeccable reputation for his skill and understanding. He both attends and lectures at International hair conferences in order to keep up to date with the latest techniques. Rogers Medical is fully registered under the new National Care Standards Commission.

Do drugs help?

Yes! Drugs do work and their use should not be underestimated. If you are losing hair rapidly, then simply stabilising your hair loss can work wonders for your self esteem. Also, stable hair loss means we can ADD more hair to balding and thinning areas, not just replace the lost hair. You will get a thicker, long term result by using both drugs and hair transplants. I recommend Propecia as the most effective single drug (although Dutasteride may prove more effective). This can also be combined with Minoxidil for additional, synergistic benefit.

Who’s suitable?

Most men and many women are suitable except for significant medical illness. However, some people are better candidates than others but this can be discussed in consultation with Dr Rogers.

Does it hurt?

Very little. Most of my patients say that it is better than going to the dentist for a filling! At Rogers Medical, we normally only have one patient per day, so we can take our time which really does seem to make it a very pleasant experience.

What about dangers?

Hair transplantation is a minor skin procedure performed under local anaesthetic. It is therefore very safe but there is always a potential risk of infection or scarring for example. Fortunately, with modern, refined hair transplant techniques, these complications are very unusual.

Do I need time off?

Most people will need about one week off work but that depends on your circumstances. Ideally, all patients should take it easy for a few days but then, if you have a job where you can wear a hat, you could go back to work very quickly. Someone in an office or TV presenting, would need a bit longer.

What sort of results can I expect? Is a full head of hair possible?

It always depends on your degree of hair loss and your type of hair. If you are younger, with early hair loss and you are taking Propecia to stop further loss, then it is possible to have a full head of hair. But if you have had significant hair loss for 20 years and only fine, sparse donor hair, then you won’t get a full head of hair back unless you choose the hair piece option. However, many men in their 40’s and 50’s who are quite bald do get a very good result by transplanting the front 2/3 of their scalp. This hair frames their face again which makes them look and feel younger. The back of the head (crown) is not so visible anyway and many men will accept that.

Does surgery cause hair loss?

Surgery doesn’t damage surrounding hair but can occasionally accelerate the loss of fragile hair, already affected by Dihydrotestosterone, which would be shed anyway within the next few weeks. This however, can be reduced by taking Propecia beforehand, at least four weeks previously.

How long does it take?

The procedure normally takes 3-4 hours but longer if we do 1000 grafts or more. However, you are not sitting there in the chair all that time. After we take the strip, we then give you 15 minutes in the patient’s room to have a coffee, sandwich and a stretch before bringing you back in for placement of the grafts. This arrangement makes it quite a pleasant experience for the patient – there’s never a feeling of urgency at Rogers Medical. Click Here to see some testimonials

When will I see growth?

Usually, when the grafts are placed, the hair bulb tends to go into a dormant phase before growing again at around 12 weeks. Some hairs will start growing before then and some will take longer but by 6 months, most of the hair will be growing and have reached a length of an inch or two. Many people will then book their next sessions.

Can anyone else’s hair be used?

No! But people have tried. It simply gets rejected

What about further loss?

Surgery replaces hair that is already lost – it cannot cause new hair to grow back. The best results tend to be patients who take Propecia which stops further hair loss and surgery to replace hair in thin or bald areas. Of course, all surgeons should take account of potential further loss when planning hair transplants so that this isn’t an issue. Don’t forget, further procedures can be done as hair loss progresses but there will eventually be a limit reached when no more hair can be transplanted.

Can chest hair be used for transplants

Yes, but usually as the last resort for adding extra volume, particularly on the crown, after regular scalp donor has been used up first.

Cost of consultation

We have a flat rate for consultations which is £50 for approximately half an hour. Although we didn't used to charge, because patients do get to see one of the leading hair transplant doctors, not a sales adviser, we feel it is only fair. Neither doctor will sell you anything you couldn't benefit from and will tell you if you are unsuitable for a treatment, which is worth paying for an honest opinion.

In the FUE method, does any of the hair taken from the donor site re-grow?

Hopefully, all the hair removed from the donor site and transplanted will regrow! I assume the question is:

Does the donor hair regenerate itself? No, it generally doesn't. There is evidence that partially removed hairs can regrow from both the top and bottom halves of the hair follicle, but it is a very hit and miss affair and not a basis for "hair multiplication" at the moment.

Essentially, one hair moved from the donor area becomes one hair in the recipient area ( and one hair less in the donor area).

Plug removal

There are many decisions and factors influencing the choice of plug (punch) graft removal. In brief, these are:

How many? If there are only a few, widely spaced and low set punchgrafts, they are best removed by surgery. This is usually done individually, using a similar punch to the one used to place them originally. If they are in a straight line, it may be possible to remove them as a strip in one go.

More problematic are those that are many, densely packed and quite large. They would either have to be removed individually but over many sessions or the hair removed by laser. Laser hair removal is generally effective but large punchgrafts often leave behind scarred, uneven circles which are still visible. These pitted scars would then still need punching back out, although dermabrasion would help improve the cosmesis.

The alternative choice is to use modern hair transplantation to fill up the space surrounding the punchgrafts, which then blend in better, looking more natural and covering the bald areas.

Costs of consultation

The cost of consultation is £50 sterling. This and the revised 2006 prices will be posted on the site shortly.

How long does it take to heal

The grafts normally take two days to settle in. Before that, they could be damaged by scratching or banging your head. After those 48 hours though, they're pretty safe so long as you don't rub your scalp for about one week.

For about 7-10 days, you will get some crusting around the grafts, which will be visible but after that, they disappear and everything will look as it was. In three months time, the hair will start growing back through and results becoming visible.

Why are hairloss after delivery

Because of hormonal changes, female hair tends to get thicker during pregnancy. This partly because of an increased hair shaft calibre but also because more hair is retained in the growing (anagen) phase of the hair cycle. After delivery, there are abrupt hormonal changes which trigger a shedding reaction. This shedding includes the normal amount of hair loss plus all the additionally retained hair of the previous nine months. This causes a major and visible change in hair quantity and quality. However, it should improve again over the next twelve months.

Is it normal for a ptatient to have swelling face and eyes after hair transplant?

It is entirely normal to have some post procedure forehead swelling, sometimes affecting the eyes and cheeks too. Everyone is different - some people get no swelling, some get lots. It tends to be worse on first procedures, second or third sessions seem to be better. Also, we now routinely add low dose steroid to the local anaesthetic, which seems to help. It usually occurs by day 2 but is fast disappearing by day 5.

Is it possible to keep hair combed over?

Generally, after a hair transplant, you can stop needing to "comb over" your hair. However, if you mean: Can you comb over your hair to cover the crusting that you get in the first few days, then yes you can. How easy it is for you to cover depends on your pattern of hair loss. Most people ideally still need about a week off work to avoid other people noticing.

Do you do eyebrow transplants?

We have performed quite a number of eyebrow transplants. The scalp hair is a different texture but in practice, it seems to blend in surprisingly well, enough not a perfect match. Each case has to be considered individually though and is not suitable for patchy eyebrows due to alopecia areata.

How does your method of re-implantation compare with the Choi technique?

People often confuse technique with equipment. The Choi implanter is a device which makes an incision and plants the graft. In theory, it should speed the process but in practice, it hasn't caught on. There are concerns that the results aren't as good as a manual technique and few surgeons use it. The highest graft densities are achieved without using it.

Microscopes

Microscopes are used to help the technicians dissect the hairs better. They can see more clearly under magnification which enables them to prepare the grafts more finely. These slimmer grafts can be placed more densely into even smaller pinpricks which is a particular advantage for hairline restoration. The disadvantage tends to be longer preparation time and increased staffing costs

How much will it cost me?

It depends on your degree of hair loss and how dense you want theresult to be. The more hair you replace, the better the result.

Please can you tell me how effective you believe the product procerin to be and whether you would recommend it?

It's probably fair to say that whatever natural, herbal, vitamin etc based products that people try, more orthodox drug treatments definitely seem more effective and better proven. So, given a limited budget, the drugs are better value. However, it may be possible to get additional benefits by taking other products as well.

Can you take FUE grafts from abundunt neck hair

It's more difficult to take grafts from the neck area as it is more mobile than the scalp. But it could be done. However, the neck hair can recede just the same as the frontal hairline i.e. The abundant neck hair can thin out and disappear too as you get older, so you wouldn't recommend using it.

With the FUE technique, can you advise if the donor area is shaved and also how long it is before the donor/receiving area heals so the effects of the

Shaving of the donor area is compulsory with the FUE technique - it will not be possible otherwise. Healing takes around 7 days but of course, the hair will still need to grow.

Do you do hair implants

Synthetic hair implants have a long history but have many problems. Essentially, they are similar to non dissolvable stitches, dyed to the colour of your hair, which are threaded into the scalp skin under local anaesthetic. Unfortunately, the body rejects them, causing skin infections and inflammation, leading to scarring. We cannot generally recommend this technique.

The Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians is regarded asa mark of quality. Do you intend to join this group?

There are many American forum groups but since we are UK based, we prefer to concentrate on UK patients.

Do you do implants?

Hair implants are synthetic hair fibres implanted into the skin of the scalp. They are a bit similar to non dissolvable stitches which are coloured to match your hair. Initially, after a minor local anaesthetic procedure, they can look quite good. Unfortunately, the body finds them very irritating and tries to get rid of them, resulting in continuous shedding of the implant. This inflammation causes scalp infection and scarring and therefore Rogers Medical do not recommend this hair loss technique.

What type of hair is best?

The best hair for transplantation is generally quite dark and of thick calibre with a moderate degree of curl on slightly sallow skin, ideally very densely packed - literally with thousands more hairs than sparser patients. So hair transplanting works very well for most races - Asian, Caucasian (white), Oriental, male or female. Afro Caribbean hair does transplant well but is often quite sparse with very tight curls, so can be more difficult to transplant than straighter hair.

Day of Procedure.

You may wear a baseball cap or similar to go home in. We will show you how to put it on but once it is in place, do not take it off again or keep adjusting it, as your scalp will still be numb from the local anaesthetic and it is very easy initially to dislodge or damage grafts without realising it. When you get home, we recommend that you remove the cap, slowly and carefully, whilst watching in the mirror. We will give you some paracetamol, which you may need to take for the first 24 hours. Once the local anaesthetic has worn off, your donor site is likely to feel tight and a little sore. You will benefit from taking the painkillers regularly, every four to six hours, for the first 24 hours or so, as this will reduce the discomfort to a minimum. You should not use aspirin or ibuprofen or drink alcohol for the first 24 hours as these “thin the blood” and may cause minor bleeding. When the anaesthetic wears off, you may experience slight spotting of blood from the donor site but this is not unusual and you should simply press firmly on the area for 5 minutes with the clean swabs provided.

Days 1 - 2

Day One is the day of the procedure.Your donor site may still be a little sore. Avoid scratching or picking the crusting on your scalp. You may get some forehead or eyebrow swelling over the next few days. This is normal and is to be expected. This can be reduced by “taking it easy.” You should lie back rather than sit upright if reading or watching TV as this will help any swelling to dissipate away from your face.

Days 3 - 4

You can now get your hair wet. Stand under a gentle, lukewarm shower for five minutes, letting the water soak the crusts but do not scratch or use shampoo just yet. Leave your hair to dry naturally, using your fingers to style it, dabbing gently with a soft towel. DO NOT RUB! You can do this twice or even three times a day for 10 minutes a time. Any forehead swelling will peak now and disappear over the next few days.

Days 5 – 10

You should now start shampooing daily with a mild shampoo such as Neutrogena. You should apply the shampoo to the back or sides of the head, away from your grafts and gently work into a lather. You should then gently allow the soapy suds to run onto the grafts. Do not be tempted to pick at the crusts but don’t be surprised if some of the graft hairs come away with the loose crusts. This is perfectly normal. This should be carried out daily as this helps to speed up the healing process. You can gently start shampooing around the grafts from day seven. The stitches can be removed from day eight onwards.

Days 11-14

The donor area should now be healed and the stitches may already have started to dissolve and fall away. However, due to patient differences, the stitches may need removing either by returning to one of our centres or by making an appointment with your GP’s nurse. Many patients find the donor site more comfortable once the stitches are removed. You should avoid heavy lifting or exercise until at least two weeks is up.

Days 14 – Six Months

Once your stitches have gone and the donor area feels comfortable then it is a good time to have a haircut. Over the next six months, the individual hairs will start growing through, getting longer each day. It is important to realise that the hair doesn’t appear “all at once” but is a gradual process, maximum results achieved once all the hair has grown to a reasonable length i.e. Not cut short. You can treat your hair normally now, washing, drying, cutting etc. It is normal not to see any growth at all before three months and it often takes the six months before thick growth comes through.

On a lengthy session of say 2500 grafts how are the follicular units prevented from dying before they are transplanted?

We now use alternative solutions to store the grafts in. We used to use "normal" or physiological saline but that hasn't been proved to be as good as our new solution. However, there is even more research going to help even longer storage times. Up to 6 hours, even in saline, regrowth is very good but longer than that causes problems. This is a concern because most clinics can finish 2000 grafts within 6 hours but 3000+ grafts will take a lot longer but the regrowth rate will go down, in effect, actually killing off some of those important follicles.

How to Care for your hair transplant grafts

You have invested time and money in your grafts. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure optimum results. Please contact us first if possible if you have any urgent worries or problems. In an emergency, we do carry mobile phones and have an answering machine but if you feel you need medical assistance immediately, then please seek advice from your local GP or casualty department. However, most problems are straightforward and part of the normal healing process. Please ‘phone us during working hours on 07000 24 24 25 and there will be staff who can help you.

Review

We would like you to return for review at 6 months to check on growth, results and satisfaction. We can compare your before and after photos and discuss any future hair restoration requirements. As part of our guarantee, this review is mandatory but if it is difficult for you to get to see us, then please keep us informed by telephone or post.

If a patient commits to a totally shaven head could fue method of body hair transplantation be effective.ie the problem of differnt lengths and textur

It's important to know that FUE is a recent development and we have only just learnt about the best indications for its' use.

Even though FUE can be less detectable with short hair cuts, it is not invisible. You cannot get "something for nothing." A shaven head would probably show sparser areas where the hair has been removed (to be relocated elsewhere on the head). A slightly longer hair style (clippers 2 grade) would probably camouflage that.

When will 'dense packing' be available at The Rogers Clinic?

It depends what is meant by "dense packing." We already place grafts at far higher densities than even a few years ago. Most surgeons would probably regard anything above 45 FUs per cm as dense packing. Some claim higher. However, using such figures is in fact misleading, because there is no consensus about the decisions involved.

For instance, hair varies in calibre - some individuals have hair shafts that are literally 5 times thicker than others. Such thick hair could not be packed to the same density.

Grafts vary in numbers of hairs - a 3 hair graft is larger than a 1 hair graft. You could not pack 3 hair grafts as densely as 1 hair grafts. For instance, say 50 one hair grafts were packed in one cm squared but you could only place 25 three hair grafts in one cm. Even though the three hair grafts were larger and not as tightly packed, you have actually placed more hair, 75 versus 50 hairs in that cm.

At Rogers Medical, we believe we can achieve high, realistic densities over small areas i.e. Hairlines which looks natural, not like an unnatural "wall of hair."

One further consideration - if you were to pack the hair so close over a wide area, all the donor hair would be used up very quickly, leaving nothing left to cover further hair loss. By definition, the hair transplants must be spaced wider apart than nature, otherwise there will not be sufficient area covered.

What will it cost?

Cost depends on the number of grafts required. In turn, this depends on the size of the area and the density required (which also relates to any existing hair to work in between). In addition, variations in hair type, texture and even colour, do make a difference. That is why a consultation is so important. However, roughly speaking, an area the size of your palm, requires at least 1000 grafts.

In respect of a 1000 graft strip session, what lenght is the scar likely to be?

Depending on various factors, the average length will be 12cm.

Re: The chap on the video- how many grafts did he receive- did he get any shockloss-?

The videoed patient received 1000 grafts. He only wanted the small bald temples filling in, ie, he didn't want to advance his hairline nor remove the "receding" lok completely. Neither was he looking for the highest density possible as he wanted an improvement, rather than a dramatic change.

As we only really performed the surgery in the bald temples, he had no discernable shock loss.

I am thinking of a 1000 graft FUE session - Can I grow my hair at the back to hide the area? How long should it be?

It would probably be impossible to cover a 1000 FUE session with long hair, but can be done for 500. Because FUE grafts are taken quite wide spaced, then the shaved area needs to be large. In fact, not shaving most of the back and side of the head, would probably compromise our ability to perform a large 1000 FUE session.

Do you use the lateral slit procedures of hasson and wong

We have used the lateral slit technique for many years, particularly in the temple area. However, we don't use it exclusively, as we feel that a combination of methods is better than slavishly following a particular technique.

How do you determine what pattern of grafts you will implant into an area

Generally, we follow the existing patern of the remaining hair, to recreate your original pattern. This can include "widows peaks" and "double crowns." However, if the patient is truly bald, we will create the pattern "standard" to 90% of the population ie non of the above.

Will you be able to offer finance in the near future?

We have looked at this but generally, it works out more expensive than a patient arranging their own personal loans.

In order to save preserve donor hair, would it be possible to use BHT first, if enough were available?

Body hair transplant surgery is still somewhat controversial and experimental (and expensive!) so most people would say that it was to be used after normal scalp hair.

How long would the hair have to be at the back in order to hide a 500 graft FUEdonor area?

The hair length will either have to be fairly long - at least 2 inches to cover over the shaven patch or very short all over so that it blends into it as a chosen "style."

When doing hairline work i.e thickening up and planting in between existing hair, is shockloss a problem?

Shock loss - a shedding reaction in response to a trigger such as local anaesthetic or surgery itself - can affect any recipient area hair (not usually donor hair though). It tends to be worse in young men losing their hair quite rapidly, rather than older men who have very slow loss. Drugs such as Propecia do seem to help stop it though.

The shock loss is most noticeable with moderate thinning, which is why it generally is better to wait to perform hair transplantation, rather than rushing in at the first sign of thinning hair.

How much would it cost me?

Our prices are upfront comparisons - fixed fees, no hidden costs and no haggling. We believe we give a top class service, giving each patient our best attention. The actual amount each patient pays depends on factors such as : Size of area, grafts numbers needed, density needed and the donor availability.

I have relativley minor temple hair loss, how many grafts would be needed approx. To cover say 25cm2 with good density- could this be achieved in one

Roughly speaking, most people would need around 1000 grafts for an area that size to get good density. Some people might still want a second session for even higher densities, but that also depends on hair type, age etc.

I have extensive scar tissue around the donor area, left from previous transplants.

There are a number of options to improve old scarring - either scar revision or implanting grafts into the scar. However, it very much depends on individual circumstance, best discussed at consultation.

Beard(UNDER CHIN)tohead?

In theory, beard hair (like body hair generally) can be transplanted and has been performed successfully. Apart from texture differences, the main issue is the relatively small amount available and the potential forvisible scarring.

I have eyebrows that have been over plucked and would like to have them restore, do u do this type of treatment

We have performed eyebrow transplantation surgery with increasing frequency, with good results. It does of course, depend on each patient.

Is it safe for me to have a hair transplant if im diabetic?

Hair transplantation is a minor surgery technique which is safe for a well controlled diabetic. However, diabetes does increase your risk of infection but that is a very low risk anyway 1:1000 . We have often operated on diabetics with no problems.

Why do you not show more patient's results on your website

We only show patient photos who have actively agreed to allow us to do so, which is a small minority, even of those who would like to see more photos! Also, we can only show those photos where we have completed the treatment - ironically, we often find that people are happy with their results and therefore do not return for the follow up review photos. Understandable, because many people live distant to the clinic, but very important to us.

Your toupe wearer is shown after the transplant and before. Did he have the whole of the top of his head treated or just the front

He had a full crown which needed to be shaved whilst using a hairpiece (it was glued over the shorn hair). We transplanted his front, bald area and blended it in with his crown/vertex areas.

Can you perform hair transplants on other parts of the body, for example if someone has suffered a loss of pubic hair would you be able to transplant

Hair transplantation is possible on every body part and, in theory, every type of hair. Pubic hair transplants are performed regularly in SE Asia for genetic/cultural reasons. Eyebrows, eyelids, beards are increasingly transplanted also.

You say larger than 2000 grafts is possible. I f I had the donor hair for 4000 grafts would you be able to implant that in one session? If not what i

We do not currently have the staff to plant more than 2500 grafts. We are shortly moving into a purpose designed suite in our local hospital which will give us a larger theatre and therefore more room for more staff, enabling us to perform the bigger sessions. But 4000 is possible.

Assuming that there is sufficient donor hair are you able to carry out a mega session to cover say 122 sq cms of bldness

We can cover that area in one session with approximately 2000 grafts but you will likely need another session to further thicken that up.

What do you say to those critics who tell us that those seeking a hair transplant have to go to America or Canada t get the best work done

There are many fine hair transplant surgeons around the world who quietly do good work. Most clinics do not do more than 2000 grafts routinely. If they do more, they have large numbers of staff which must perform megasessions daily, otherwise it is not cost effective. But not every patients wants, needs, or can afford a megasession. There is a demand for small sessions too, which the megasession clinics do not seek. At the end of the day, a good quality clinic will transplant good quality grafts with good results. The only debate is how many is appropriate.

Different densities are used at different places on the scalp what do you aim for (assuming the supply is there) for the hairline, the crown and in

Generally, the highest density will be reserved for the frontal region behind the hairline. High density hairlines can look unnatural and so need to be blended into areas of increasing density. The crown is always an area that tends to be a bit see through, even with high densities, so it is better to accept that and keep the frontal looking as thick as possible.

Hasson and wong trim the existing hair in the destinatin region so that they can judge the natural angle of the hair in that recipient area . Do you d

Normally, the recipient area doesn't need shaving unless we're placing grafts into still quite dense areas. There is no need to shave to see the angle - it's quite obvious when using magnifying "loupes" like we use. Even to the naked eye, if you look in the mirror, you can see the difference between angles of the front region and the sideburn regions.

How much a single session costs?

All costs depend on number of grafts transplanted - this needs to be discussed at consultation with the doctors.

Are more hairs required for blonde hair?

Blonde hair aways gives a very natural result. However, blonde hair is often finer than dark hair which doesn't cover as well. Blonde hair also doesn't show up as well. So generally, blonde hair does need more transplantation to show as much improvement, as dark hair does, hair for hair.

Since 10% of hair follicles are in a resting phase and thus not producing hair are you able to locate those follicles and implant those..other wise th

Because we trim the grafts under microscopy but not too "skinny," any resting stage follicles associated with each follicular unit, will also be transplanted, definitely Not discarded!

You say that two procedures are needed why is that. What sort of density and coverage can one expect from one procedure if there is enough donor supp

Generally, high densities are possible over a small area  but not over a large area, in one session. It is impossible to achieve natural densities over the whole head because there will always be a shortage of donor. It is better to accept this and aim for a natural improvement.

Who will be performing Dr Rogers hair transplant & will it be fue or strip?

Dr Stevenson, our London doctor, will be performing Dr Rogers' hair transplantation with the Stratford clinic team of technicians, in early February. Dr Rogers has gone for the strip technique as he preferred not to have a shaven donor area.

Do surgeons inject saline solution into the skin to enable greater density to be achieved- is this effective?

Most surgeons inject saline for haemostasis but overinjecting an area is not really that beneficial and has it's own problems too.

Are you set up to perform more than 2000 grafts in one session?

We often perform up to 2000 grafts and can perform 2 strip surgeries "back to back" so that the patient recieves 3-4000 grafts in 2 days.

What is the delay between seeking a consultation and the 1st HT procedure

Our waiting list is around 4 -6 weeks. Depending on time of year, that can be shorter or longer, so advance planning for time off work is essential.

What lotions are used to speed healing and improve the quality of scars

Most of the healing process depends on each patient's individual healing qualities but taking things easy for a few days, plus Aloe vera gel seems to help.

What if any is the extra difficulty of covering the crown of the head

The procedure is no more difficult than the hairline (easier, in fact) but crowns are large areas, that tend to keep growing larger. They need a lot of grafts to give good coverage which might be better reserved for hairline use.

I'm thinking about getting a 1000 FUE procedure. I work in an office and don't want my colleagues to know I'm doing this. How short does the donor hai

If you work in an office, then you'll need to take a good 7-10 days off work. You will also have to accept that a large part of the donor area will need shaving to perform the FUE.
